Okay here's the story from the first movie only (I don't read the comics and
*SPOILER*):
Peter Parker is the 'nerd' at his local high school, and seems to always miss
the bus, prompting laughter from his fellow school mates. He really has only one
friend, Harry Osborn, son of the scientifically brilliant Norman Osborn, who's
company is on the employ list of the US Military. Peter also has a huge crush on
the girl next door, Mary-Jane.
On a school excursion to a scientific research lab, Peter is taking
photographs of the spiders and MJ when he is bitten by one of the genetically engineered
spiders and becomes very ill. After sleeping it off, Peter wakes up to find that
he no longer needs his glasses and is quite buff, it seems that the genetically
engineered spider's venom has changed Peter's DNA making him somewhat of a
spider-man.
He finds that he has remarkable 'powers' in being able to sense well things
are going to happen and have spider silk shoot out of glands in his wrists. He
also finds he is able to scale walls with ease and hang upside down. With his
new powers Peter invests in a costume to get some money from a wrestling arena
as "The Human Spider", events come about that a criminal he could of
stopped kills his guardian "Uncle Ben" and his life is changed
forever.
Spider-Man becomes the talk of the town and as Peter Parker he takes photos of
himself solving crimes and stopping the 'bad guys'. (That's my favourite bit -
it is soo funny the posing! : ) Meanwhile at Oscorp, keen on keeping his grant,
Norman Osborn experiments an enhancing drug on himself only to send himself mad
and have the alternate persona of "The Green Goblin". The Green Goblin
wreaks havoc on Oscorps enemies and the only person who can stop the rampage is
of course, Spider-Man.
In a series of spectacular showdowns Spider-Man and Goblin have a serious end
finally as Goblin has realised that Spiderman is in fact his son's best friend,
the nerdy Peter Parker and kidnaps MJ for persuasion tactics.
Events come to pass and Norman is discovered out and The Green Goblin manages
to kill himself. Spiderman returns his body to his house only to find Henry
waiting, vowing revenge on Spider-Man for his fathers death. Spider-Man leaves to
fight crime in the end leaving room for more sequels.
Okay so that is the low down of the Spider-Man story and sure there is a lot
more to it, but you'll just have to see it to find out. I enjoyed the movie
though it was a little slow in places but the whole Spider-Man costume makes up
for it.
